What's up With The Advertising Banners? |
Lead | |
|
Today I see that when I read a thread, advertising banners are popping up. It's not that big of a deal, it's like that on practically every other web
site on the net. I'm just not used to seeing it here. Is this a new thing with yuku? I understand that so much of the internet is advertising driven, and
ads help pay the bills. I do want to say that when I was reading the thread "achieving Glass feel with graphite" in Rod Building and Tackle
Tinkering, my computer stopped working and my anti-virus software popped up a message saying that it detected and quarantened a virus. This was without me even
clicking on any of the new ad banners. I hope that none of these ads are throwing viruses our way. After this everything was locked up and I had to restart the
computer. OK I'm done now.

Tom,
Were you by any chance viewing the board without being logged into Yuku? Also, if you could PM me with some details about your computer system, such as operating system, anti-virus program, and anything you can remember about that ad. If you were logged into Yuku I would like to know that too. Yesterday Yuku changed our status to "large board". They've been working on this for a few weeks now. Prior to the change, we were considered a small board and we were charged by the day. Now we are charged by the page view. Because our per day charges were based on the old ezBoard rates, we were paying more per day than if we were charged by the view. Our "Yuku Account" should last about twice as long now, at the current rate of web traffic. The glitch was I had not yet attended to the ad settings. Hopefully, I have everything on track now. Tom |

I also saw the pop-ups earlier today. I may not have been logged in. Don't see them now.

Tom, I want to thank you and all the guys that put this thing together and keep it running. Whether you are volunteering your time or are making a fat
consulting fee, it makes no difference. I get a lot of enjoyment out of this board and you have my heartfelt thanks for making it possible. That goes for you,
bulldog, cameron, and whoever the rest of the crew is. Having been into computers since DOS and 8086, I have considerable appreciation and respect for the guys
that keep abreast of the knowledge and skills required to manage these pesky contraptions, and make it possible for us lessor souls to utilize their
capabilities. Glenn
