Colorado Clave - Sept. 10-11 ***IMPORTANT UPDATE*** |
Lead | |
|
It has been suggested that we hold a Colorado Clave in conjunction with the AFFTA trade show which will be Sept. 9-11 in Denver. If there is interest out there I will begin to pull things together. I'm thinking that the Arkansas River in the Salida area would be a good place to hold a clave. There is plenty of open water available between Buena Vista and Salida and September fishing on the Ark is generally fantastic. There are several very good fly shops in the area and enough motels or camping spots to accommodate a good size crowd.
Let's hear some ideas!

Howard...as long as my plans to attend the AFFTA show don't fall through then I'll plan to attend the Colorado Clave on Saturday and Sunday. I'm excited! The Arkansas River fished great last year about that time.
A few photos to spur more interest and discussion... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Think hopper/droppers/BWO's. Good times! Pardon the Tenkara Ayu photo. HA...

Howard
A Colorado glass clave would be great! I'll either be in Yellowstone NP that weekend or flingin' flies with y'all on the Ark! [Or possibly in Ethiopia receiving our soon-to-be adopted son! Did you guys know they have trout in Ethiopia?!] |

Howard,
You know if there is any way possible for me to make it, I'll be there. I would imagine Doug and Carl Sims will be in tow. I'll know more next week but I might be able to make that trip a "marketing research" expense...??? |

Cameron, those are some really nice photos of the Arkansas.
Doc, I'm hoping you can make it for sure. Dane, I know that you'll be here if it's at all possible and if you're here so is Doug. Let the good times roll... |

If I don't HAVE to work, and if the flows are low enough, I would be happy to show the way into Browns Canyon for anyone who wants to stretch their legs hiking into a spot that is a bit remote. Great idea, Howard. In September hoppers are still working, and flows are usually very fishable/wadeable.

Dennis, a Colorado Clave wouldn't be natural without you.

Howard,
As soon as I saw your post, I started making plans to be there. I know it's early but which side of the AFFTA trade show are you thinking of having the clave on, before or after? Doug "Life is a journey; waiting for you to create your own adventure."

I believe that we're pointing towards the end. Doug I am required by law to post in writing that rich Texans and Oklahomans will be allowed into Colorado as long as they promise not to buy all the riverfront property.

AG - If I "adopt" you, will you transfer ownership of your quiver to me?
Howards - I thought a vasectomy a few years ago would take care of having more children in the future, but I forgot about a lobotomy! The idea of adoption was never part of our life plan; we already have 3 beautiful daughters (ages 3, 5, & 7) that keep our family dynamic fun and busy. But a couple years ago, we decided as a family (and with some other friends) to meet regularly and become more aware about situations that happen in the world around us and what our role can be in them. And after learning about orphan issues in the world, well, we decided that we had room in our lives for another child. I guess one can never have enough fishing partners, eh? |

dbd...good on you for on the adoption. I was adopted...and I've turned out alright I guess. Eh? HA...
So how many do we have confirmed? Just Howard and I? Two might not be enough to be considered a Clave.

Thanks Mike, I'll take you up on your offer. You've got previous experience. Surely you must have some cases that would warrant a trip to Colorado. Greenies are always committing crimes there and then sneaking back home.

Howard, I'd love to come fish with you in September, but it's pretty hard to leave the unfrozen wasteland at that time of year!!!!

AG, Colorado can't offer you anything that Alaska doesn't have...except the opportunity to fish with some terrific folks and killer Mexican food and Old Belgium. Think about it!

If Dane and Doug are coming, I'll be there. Even if I have to stow away in their gear, or under the truck. Just put it on the vacation schedule!!!!
Every day above ground is a good day.......to fish
