Anyone with both Fenwick FF856 and FF856-5? |

Has anyone out there tried both of these rods? I'm curious to know how much difference there is in action/feel before I cut up a blank for a build.

kitefly- The 3-digit Fenwick blanks were all Feralite blanks, tip over butt ferrules... the have a different action than the earlier yellow blanks. If
you're cutting up a Feralite blank, the action could change quite a bit, possibly not liking the outcome. If you are talking about a yellow FL102-6 blank,
the ferrule material, glue in depth, etc., can change the action on them as well. Which blank are you working with? If it's the yellow FL102-6, I can
provide you with quite a bit of information on them. I have done quite a bit with them in different configurations. Let me know if I could help. -Fred

Thanks a bunch for the reply Fred. It's the yellow FL102-6. I asked about the 856's because the blank seems closer to my 806 than my FF79. Would
appreciate anything you have to share on it. This will be my first build so I'd at least like to be fairly sure I can come out with something usable.
I'm interested in something more portable than a 2-piece, but if that's gonna turn it into an 8 wt I've already got an FF85 I like just fine.
If it's too much info to post you can email me at dlhammer@sbcglobal.net |

Well, I have a 856-5, and it is a tad bit heavier and a bit slower than my 856 BUT my 5pc is all tip over butt, over butt, over butt...
I use it mostly with a 7wt. Keith |

kitefly and onemoredeer- email sent... hope it helps you out. The FL102-6 is a wonderful taper, it'll make a great 6wt rod. -Fred |
