Part of the problem may be that chunking streamers and weighted nymphs may obligate you to use bigger rods, and most fly fishermen have gravitated to zero ounce graphite wands. Those tip-flexing, fast action rods aren't really built for wets/streamers/nymphs.
Fiberglass rods, however, AND slower graphite offerings (bamboo, too, of course) will get these jobs done. Maybe, on the other hand, some fishermen view underwater fly fishing as kind of...well, boring.
Who, out there, is still using streamers? A single, double, or trio of wet flies? How about an unweighted or weighted nymph? My teacher specialized in nymph fishing. He was my wife's brother. Consequently, my wife and I will use dry flies if we see trout feeding on the surface, but otherwise, we tend to use nymphs, wets, and streamers.
How about others? What 'glass rods do you like for this work?
