Sceptre Blank Looking for a Rod Builder |
Lead | |
|
I travel in the Cleveland area a great deal and over the years found Anglers Mail. I purchased a few of the Sceptre blanks from the store several years ago
with the intent of building rods but never found the time. I'm looking for a builder you would recommend to build a rod using one of my blanks. While I
have a few blanks, the build I have in mind would be on an eight foot, four piece blank set. Yes, I did find one of these a few years ago. I might add that I
am looking for a builder that could make a cork reel seat similar to that of a Phillipson Royal. Please let me know if you know any builder interested that
you would recommend based on previous work quality. Best, Steve

well, I thought I was in the money til i got to the end where it said:
"based on previous work quality" Ha! Seriously Steve; there's some very good builders on here but you'll probably have to send them a PM; look in the Rod pictures section and that'l give you some clues-p- |

Gypsy,
Mountainshark, hookjaw, boarmountain Not necessarily in that order. Not a bad one in the bunch. I probably forgot some. So I apologize for that.

Steve,
I'm not stating this to be PC. Pearow's advice is spot on. There's a lot of competent builders that have posted pics on this site. Go to "Rod Pictures" and browse a bit. I suggest you go back a few pages to last winter! That seems to be when lots of rods get built. You likely have a build in your mind's eye. Perhaps you'll spot a build that's close to that or something sharp you haven't considered?!

Hello
Thanks for the endorsements guys but this is not a personality contest the fellow needs a rod put up. My advice is to find a local rod builder and contact them . That way you can have the all important personal contact and possibly the foundation for a life long working relationship. Shipping can easily add 30 - 40 bucks to the cost of a custom made rod, that money could be better spent ! I would first visit my local tackle shop if they don't build and repair rods they have someone that does. Always ask to see examples of the rod crafters work before you decide on a builder. If you don't have a local tackle shop go here http://www.rodguild.com/builderfinder.html not all builders are listed some prefer not to be listed, they are generally the ones that are so busy they don't need any new customers. Some of the best rods I have ever seen, have been put up by people that no one ever heard of retired ,disabled people that do rod work on the side to keep busy and supplement their income. The gleam of a well made rod in a photo is nice ! The gleam in the eyes face to face with your local rod builder is priceless !
