Good morning, just finishing my coffee and waiting for the sun to come up to do my morning fishing. Been way to hot up here for the past month and a half, mostly over 100 degrees so Im kept to fishing early morning and evening before sundown. On the plus the best fishing has been just 1 1/4 mile below the house at the mouth of the lake and 3 miles the other direction so its saved a ton on gas expenses.

Andy, the female ferrule is blued, then the type of paint over that the 50s Ocean City Silent Drag reels had, finally a thin varnish overcoat. Never seen that one before on a Phillipson, but then this is the first Aristo Ive handled. Also the first 5wt Eponite rod.

Wayne, its a different rod for sure, and Im thinking the same thing, some kind of low cost Eponite model, wraps, and seat are more like the pre Eponite 50s glass rods. However I never knew they even made a true 5wt Eponite rod, the rod blank itself is much lighter than the X series which I pretty well have completely. As well its lighter than the early natural finish (dont know if thats true because Ive done some repairs on some of these rods and think they have a redish rust colored baked on glass or resin color under paint and the "natural" is actually a top paint coat. At least thats what Ive seen on a few "natural" early Master blanks and under the paint on some Johnson Profile 400 series rods).
Wraps are very much like the lower cost rods, although its about as course a thread as on the Johnson Profile 400 rods. Grip is pretty much a standard full wells. Kind of hard to understand, at the time the Eponite rods were bring quite a premium I believe I read in Johnsons book they were around $45-50 when they were introduced. Anyway it would be interesting if anyone has any insite into where this rod series falls in the Phillipson lineup pre fire. I do have quite a few from this period. A Deluxe Eponite I have has the same type of reel seat without the "no rock" reel foot rails, so aparently this was not on all models, including the Deluxe which was one step above the Master. This particular Deluxe has the Elk Tan painted blank though. Likewise I have some Royals that are Eponite that are both ways, either "natural" finish or painted "Elk Tan", both with the "No Rock" all aluminum seat and the LC cork and ring seat with fixed butt hood, these early Royals follow the earlier X series paterns pretty close. The Master Eponite rods from this period I have are all "natural finish" and in all the rods I have the info looks to be some sort of roll stamping, although the Aristo is clearly a wet slide type decal. In any case I sure would like to know more about it and if there are more rods in the series, based on this one Im going to have my eyes open for them as well, its a fun rod.

Thanks for posting your info that sounds like a super Bass rod. If you can post some pictures of it, we seem to have found a new Phillipson Series of Eponite rods based on a different taper of Eponite blanks. Does your B suffex have a closed fixed butt hood or the one for an extension butt. I have about a dozen different 86B's and have are made for the extension butt. Sounds like its much like my pre fire Deluxe, its a butterscotch Eponite 86B, but with extenion butt, also listed as GBG GAF on the blank.
