I am very new to lines lighter than #5, and all I can say is that with a #4 that rod is pretty nice, and with a #3 it felt as though I had tied the line to the end of a stick! (no offense, Tenkara!) *Big* difference between a #4 and #3, I've discovered. Much more noticeable than the difference between a #5 and #6, for example. I see now why many folks consider lines lighter than #4 very specialized. Especially if there is any breeze about. But under the right conditions, I can see how a #3 can really lay a dry fly down with finesse! Building a 6'6" Diamondglass #3 right now. Need to experiment some more....

Wonderful pictures. Great fishing. I love bluegills too. It's funny that you should mention underlining. I have three fiberglass rods, an FF75 5/6 wt, a
Diamondglass 7' 3pc 3wt, and a South Fork 8' 5wt. After experimenting with these rods for over a month, I have found that I like them all underlined
by one line size. This seems odd to me because most people overline their rods, but I just love the way these rods perform underlined by one weight. I am glad
to see that someone else underlines besides me. I was beginning to think I was weird or something!

Regardless of the line weight, that has got to be one sweet little rod.

Lighter lines have their place for sure | ||

Everyone one I know who has used lighter wt rods has sought to find the right action and feel in these weights. Sometimes I'll go back to a 3wt sage of mine and it feels like a cannon. It's all very subjective. Les |

Maybe glass rods had line weight to make them perform like the bamboo rods they replaced. That is they would bend pretty far down the rod. I think with the
lighter line weights that we're now trying we are trying to make them feel like the graphite rods that they are now being used to replace.

I knew you would love that rod its very special. It performed real well with a Sage Quiet Taper II WF3-F for me. The lightest line I had . . . It just may be Fenwick's biggest little sleeper in the light line arena. Enjoy Alan |
