Nice bluegill... I think I ordered one of those rods as well. Is it the 7 foot 6 3 piece? How is the action, is it really flexible? I should be getting mine here in a few days and look forward to adding my 2 cents about the rod. |

That looks like a great buy, Bill, and neat that you're still catching bluegills in December. BTW, I still can't get over you on your knees casting
down the hall in your apartment building. I got a kick out of reading that because that's exactly what I would have done too ... and probably most of us
here.

Today i use a 4wf line and it cast well. i want to spend a few hours with my DT3 line and this rod before it gets cold. yes this is the 3 pc, 7'6"
rod sold on e bay recently. this may be my best buy ever on e bay.
I plan to use this rod for some carpin next year. |

So Bill how much flex did that gill put in the rod? I am exited to try mine out on the little brookies next door....

I bought one of those too. It is a fun rod to fish, especially for $25. I have fished it with WF3 and DT5, and it was "good", but I just got some WF4
that I'm going to spool up. I really think that is going to be the right match for it. We'll see.

That looks like a great buy for $25. Crappiecat, you have slipped down the hill and fallen in the well my boy.
It's time to turn over a new fly.

Bill, be sure to put in a few more photos when you catch a huge horse of a carp with that nifty outfit. What a riot to hook one in a slough up by Croton or
Peekskill and land him down by the confluence of the East River. Plus all the beautiful lower Hudson River country he'd take you through. Speaking of the
Croton, that would be a fine commuter rod to take up that way by train and fish the Croton or some other Catskill brooks.

I just got this rod in the mail. Stout at the end, but has a great "feel"!
I look forward to giving it a thoughrough trout test on sunday, then reporting back to ya'll. This forum has corrupted me, big time. I started with 2 fly rods, joined here, and now I own 5. It's a disease.... |

Who's got a link where one of these rods can be purchased?
featherlite...this is a wonderful sickness. It makes us all chuckle when someone shows up with two fly rods and quickly jumps to five which will over time jump to a dozen. HA... We've all been there before. |

I've seen those rods on the bay. I figured for the price that the ferrules must be the butt over tip variety. Am I correct on that?

Yep. They are butt over tip. I was gonna do a test drive with it today. I was counting on a big thaw from all the winter weather we had, but not the case unfortunately. Too dangerous to get up on the mountain. Hopefully on tuesday things will have melted so I can get some brookies on this rod. I will pack both a 3 and 4 weight lines and do a review of how it handles on the small brookie streams. |

what is the difference in butt over tip versus tip over butt as far as action is concerned?-p-

With a butt over tip rod, like the Eagle Claw Featherlight, the butt section has a much larger diameter than the tip. The larger diameter section is much
stiffer as a result - the vast majority of the rod flex is in the tip section. The old Eagle Claw Featherlight has all the action in the tip, which starts to
collapse with a long cast*. The butt section doesn't share the load very well.
Some rodmakers, like Griggs, use graphite in the tip to give the two sections similar stiffness. Now the rod shares the load between the tip and the butt. I don't know how these new three piece rods are built, whether or not they are all glass, or glass/graphite composites. A tip over butt rod has rod sections with similar average diameter. A properly made tip over rod blank should share the load between the tip and the butt. Tom * I also had a 60s version of the Featherlite with metal ferrules. Even though both sections had similar diameters, the action was very tip oriented in the old rod. |

I've had bad things happen with butt over tips. The tip sections seem more likely to come off during a strong cast. IMNO more so than with other ferrule
systems. I have had the same thing happen with other ferrules,so now I'm in the habit of checking my ferrules quite often, especially after a big fish.
Chased my tip of my Spruce Creek for quite a ways down stream once with a large brown still attached to the line. Many depressing thoughts were going through
my mind. I still have all four sections, thanks to my many libations poured to the Fishing Gods over the years.
