I decided to try a switch style 10" grip and ended up replacing the old extension butt with a longer one - especially when I discovered it was a plastic tube. But I kept the old endcap including plastic sleeve, which I recessed into the new butt, so the original B endcap (neat feature) woul still fit both the seat and the butt.

The new butt morse tapers into a sleeve glued under the cork handle. The cork throughout is scraps I had lying about just to see what could be achieved with them, and the butt was frankensteined from two old rod handles. The main grip was two 5x1" tubes turned down at the centre then some larger rings with a 7/8" ID glued on to add thickness where I wanted it, then turned down on a drill rig. I wax all my grips.

Given the ingredients I'm delighted with the result, but then again the quest for perfect cork is one I am happy to leave to others.
