This stuff came in the last batch of parts I aquired. When would you use these large guides. I have seen antique versions of these on bamboo Spinning rods,
although they appear to look more like an old peep sight for you rifle.

They're used mostly on British/European style match rods (a very long rod used with natural bait for carp, roach, tench, etc.). They fold to reduce the risk of damage while being transported, and are very high with relatively small rings to give extra clearance from the rod when used with very light lines and either spinning or large diameter centerpin reels. Since the fishing style is not one involving lots of casting, the extra weight isn't an issue. The rings, which appear to be aluminum oxide with shock rings, suggest a modern guide, from the late 70's on. We would use them on spinning rods where guide weight isn't a factor. BTW, nice agates! |

The collapsible guides are also used on some off shore rods. I have also seen them used one or two only on the butt section of baot rods again for ease in stowing the rod away.
