A few of you know that I've been eagerly awaiting a McFarland 8'3" three piece seven weight build for some time. I talked to Mike yesterday and he said he was overnight shipping the rod so that it would be here in time for our trip to Michigan. I had it in my hand by 08:30 this morning.
The plain truth is that you're going to wait for a McFarland build...but damn...it is worth it each time when you have it in hand.
A friend of mine was at FedEx this morning and snatched this parcel off the belt. No reason to have it go to the house if it doesn't have to. I carried it to work and up to my office. I was running late so I had to wait until the first break of a training class I am in before I could break into the triangle box finding two rod tubes inside.
This build is really nice. The wood, the wraps, the hardware, the most of all the feel of the flex have got me excited to fish this seven weight.
The yellow ferrule sections are sharp on this build as well. Well done Mike McFarland!
The second rod tube is a McFarland "Prototype" Spruce Creek seven foot three piece five weight. It is STUNNING. He sent it along for me to demo and review for this site and T.F.M. He might not get it back.
Yellow fiberglass blank, unsanded, agate guide, striking hardware and wood insert, clear wraps, and the black ink writing on the yellow blank just pops.
These sat against the wall of my office tormenting me all day. Off to Michigan tomorrow! Fishing the brown drake and hexagenia hatch with SpencerDT on Monday night. In the kayak and boats all week on the lake. Should be epic.
