At least it's new to me.

These things are just plain cool looking and I've wanted one for quite some time. This one is in pretty good shape and came fully loaded with line that I will probably put back on it as I think it's a weight I can use.

I have a feeling that this reel is either missing a part, or perhaps it was not assembled correctly when I got it. If you look at the last picture you will see a plastic washer on the spindle, apparently for the spool to ride on. This is where the part was when I took it apart for cleaning. It seems to me that the reel would function smoother if there was something similar under the retaining/drag adjusting nut. Or perhaps this is where the washer actually belongs...I just don't know?

Does anyone else have one of these?
Let me give you fellows a little history about myself. Too start off, I'm a just a rook. I first started fly fishing this spring. This last spring I walked into my local fly shop, and told the sales man I had 150$ limit. I walked out of the shop spending a little more than planned. When It was all said and done, I had a brand new TFO professional, and a Konic Lampson 3.5, all rolled up with Rio Grande line.

Then next, I did some internet researching, and also bought myself a Pflueger Medalist as a back up reel. Well, I then fished that Pflueger a few times, and thought to my self..... did I really need that new Lampson? By that time, I was already caught up in the curse that infects many of you who will eventually read this. In the next few months I found this site, and also bought myself a few more vintage reels.

I now sit before you now with about 5 rods. (3wt, 5wt. 7wt, 9wt. and a 5/6wt.), and twice as many reels. I also just got back from a Alaskan fly...

I hadn't really thought about it until the question about Daiwa Reels. But, I have a lot more reels lying around than fly lines. Some are no longer used for fishing. Some are used only with certain rods. Some of the rod and reel combos are only used for a specific type of fishing like saltwater, trout, bass, or panfish. Sometimes, I even use different lines with the same reel.

So, I have had to come up with a system for interchanging lines. It starts by using a spare reel to wind the line off of another reel. I use a spring clamp to secure one of the reels to my work bench. Once I get about 3 feet into the backing, I clip it. Then, I tie a Bimini loop in the backing that is attached to the line as well as the backing that is still on the reel. The loop has to be big enough to go around the reel. The loops can be reconnected by putting the line side through the reel side, passing the reel through the line side...
