Just got back from a 5 day family reunion here in Colorado. My wife's family have been fly fisherman for generations, so they chose a place called Harmel's Ranch in Almont, CO that happens to be right on banks of the Taylor River. Lucky me!
Almont is a tiny town that's about one thing: fishing for trout.
I inaugurated the Scott F-75 on this trip on Spring Creek, a small creek loaded with pocket water, that holds lots of small brown trout willing to take a dry fly.

This rod was broken before it was given to me over 30 years ago. The then owner broke it by slamming the car trunk on it. He repaired it by sliding a piece of spring wire inside the tube and epoxying it in place, it made a stiffer spot in the bend but I fished many times with it and it didn't seem to affect the casting or the action much. Well, this July 4th weekend while I was fishing the Pine Creek in Potter county I broke it again, while trying to wiggle a fly loose from a tree. It broke just above the wire insert that it was repaired with many years ago. Dumb action on my part.
Any way after looking at it and thinking about it I decided to fix it the same way it was originally fixed. Hopefully it will last another 25 or 30 years. Here are a couple pics of the repair job. Its not probably the best way to fix it but I think it will work.

The break, and the...

I just returned from a nice family trip to Montana. The fishing highlight was a day spent on the Upper Beaverhead River, near Dillon. While many of the rivers were still quite high (and muddy), the section just below the dam was fishing very well. Its reputation for big, powerful fish is well deserved, too. These first two took at least 20 minutes to land each. The McFarland 8' 5wt was doubled over and the fish still wouldn't budge. It was amazing.
The first was this brown, that went airborne several times before tearing down stream and taking me into the backing, the LRH singing. I chased it down stream as far as I could before I would start to interfere with other fishermen, then, it was just a battle until the fish would finally come to the net:

The second bruiser, a hefty rainbow, was an even longer battle. Have you noticed an absence of these fish? I beginning to think that flounder are the only show in town. Not that there is anything wrong with catching flounder.
