I got a chance last week to test out a Berkley PD40 that one of the board users was kind enough to sell me, thanks! A buddy and I fished a central Valley tailwater (ca.) for the better part of a day in the pouring rain, it was awsome.

The catching was good, both numbers and size but the really cool part was fishing gear that was new to me and the relizations that came with useing it. I used a Martin 67a that came with an old 6wt dt. line. It ballanced nicely about two and a half inches down from the top of the cork. Before this I had only lawn cast dt's and used 6wts on still waters. Wow, way more efective for nymph type fishing than useing lighter wieght forward lines.
The Martin I have had for a while but have always chosen other less mechanical ,smoother seeming reels. I know better now, Iv'e come to think of the Martin as functionaly smooth if that makes sense.
The PD40 was nice too but it was the outfit as a whole that made it a blast. Done rambling,...

I love fishing north central PA and usually stop in Phills shop twice a year. Phills shop is what I imagine when I think of a fly shop, think old school. I purchased two of his glass blanks so far a 6'10" that had an accident and is now 6'5" and the 7'3" 4pc that is becoming one of my favorite glass trout rods. I haven't heard many speak of the 4pc so I thought I throw in my 2 cents. This rod is very smooth with plenty of back bone. It will fish the minutia too a size 6 woolybugers. It will land a good size fish quickly and being a 4 pc its very handy. I like it with a 5wf. This rod my Cliffs days worth fly box and my licence and I'm good to go.

I have a Heddon Pal #8457-MARK IV, the line code is: CHCH-GBF? Where can I find a conversion table from letters to numbers for line?
Also I'm wanting to use my 9' bamboo rod that my Father stuck in my two hands when I was 6 years old. I learned to fly fish with this rod but had to two hand it, it was so heavy for me. It has a fairly fast tip, (has 3 sections) but no markings on rod. Could anyone give me a guesstiment as to what would be the best line for such a rod? I will be using it for bluegills.
Thanks much for your help.
